File Extension Modd

The .modd file extension is used to represent a companion data file to a video encoded in a proprietary format by the Sony company, which is used by many of their massive line of digital video recording equipment. For viewing and conversion this type of video file, designated extension ".m2t", must be viewed in the program that was intended to decode it, Sony's Motion Picture Browser. From within this program, the video can either be watched as it is or made accessible to other various video playing and editing software through a conversion process to the Microsoft Windows audio and video format, ".wma".

I really do love FileCure because it's so easy to use - you don't have to be some kind of computer guru to get just what you need!

Plug and play? Not even close. I spent a lot of time trying to get my new, so-called 'plug and play' scanner to work. I was about ready to take it back. ParetoLogic FileCure got it working and saved me a needless trip (and gas!!) back to the store.

I have to admit I'm no computer geek. When something goes wrong, I usually have to call someone to fix it and it costs me a lot of money. When my printer wouldn't work, a friend of mine suggested I try ParetoLogic FileCure a try. I figured it was worth a shot because I was going to have to pay for a geek anyway. I was so happy when it worked... and worked properly!

I figured the graphics card my grandson gave me was broken when I couldn't get it work on my computer. It turns out that I just didn't have the right driver. ParetoLogic FileCure got it workin.

Hello FileCure folks:

I can't thank you enough for this great product. I just bought a new Vista machine and had been having all kinds of problems. First it was my screen and once I got that fixed it was the printer . Finally, my son suggested I try your product. It worked great and continues to keep my computer working. Thanks you.

I hate paying a lot of money for anything. That's why I buy mostly used computer equipment. Last week I thought I got taken when I bought a scanner. It just would not work. ParetoLogic Driver Cure got it working. With the updates, it makes sure my stuff will keep working and that I don't have to pay more money.

I work at a school so my mom thinks I am some kind of computer whiz. I have wasted so much time trying to get her stuff to work. Our IT guy suggested I try ParetoLogic FileCure. It has been a godsend and has saved me a lot of wasted hours. My mom and I can't thank you enough.

My wife bought me a new Vista system, and ever since I have had problems with some of my hardware. I saw FileCure, and decided to give it a shot. Ever since, the Vista and my hardware have been working great. Thanks!

I upgraded my system to Vista, and my printer started to act funny. No error messages, but it just wasn't working quite right. I read that drivers could sometimes be the problem. I looked online and saw FileCure. After downloading FileCure, my printer works great. You guys rock!

To date, there are no third party decoding and/or conversion software packages available. Sony, throughout their multiple forays into digital media, have maintained a tight hold on the formats they use for their recorders' and players' systems. To avoid the hassle of the extremely limited flexibility built in to the format, most users will likely prefer to take the extra step of converting each video so that it can be made portable and shared with other users such as friends and family.

More Info Regarding File Extension Modd

The .modd file by itself is simply a time line of information about the dates and times that the video was taken, as well as additional information which is coded in XML format, a markup language that is similar in structure to the web page parsing language HTML. Like HTML, files in the XML format are written as text including numbers and various symbols, which means that with a bit of familiarity, the average user can easily open and examine the contents of this type of file with whichever text editing tool they prefer to use. This is especially useful in identifying video that may not be the most descriptively named; the information provided in the XML file will give good clues about what might be on the video.

If you have a .modd file on your computer, first check and see if there is a .m2t file in the same directory with it. This is actually the file which you want to open to view the video which is described in the .modd file. First check to make sure that you have the Motion Picture Browser software installed, and then try double clicking on the .m2t file. If you recieve a notice from Windows about not being able to read the file, or not knowing which program to use to open it, you must select the appropriate program manually. Right click on the file icon and choose the "Open with..." dialogue. From the list of installed programs that pops up, choose the aforementioned software. If you don't yet have it installed or have somehow lost the installation disk that came with your camcorder, you can quickly and easily download the software from the Sony website with an internet connection.

Since the Sony Motion Picture Browser software is currently only available for Windows, this software is not cross platform and must be used within that environment. Open source OS lovers will have to shell out the money to purchase a licensed copy of Windows XP or higher.

If you happen to come across a lonesome .modd file with no corresponding video file, then it may be possible that the file has been mislabeled. There are quite a few files which use the ".mod" extension; is it possible that an extra "d" was added? Should you be uncertain, the easiest way to see if the file is a legitimate Sony video time line data file is to attempt to open it with a text editor. If it opens up without any problem and displays a bunch of information that looks like it belongs to a video file formatted in XML, then you're dealing with the real thing. If the text is garbled or chunks of it are missing, the file may be damaged or corrupted. If the file cannot be read by the text editor at all, it is safe to assume that you aren't dealing with a file encoded in ascii text characters and therefore not dealing with a .modd file. Also, it is important to note that these data files are not necessary to watch the video by itself, the information is simply supplementary.
